SLCC THROUGH THE AGES - MEMORABILIA

September 2012

Physical Exhibit

The materials that were displayed in the physical exhibit represent a sampling of the various objects from our Memorabilia Collection.

From Alumni Association commemorative items such as stadium seats with a Bruin Logo, decorative Bruin license plate frames and sunglasses to more historical items such as President Nelson’s Gavel, these physical objects provide vignettes of transformation. One mug, with a road sign logo is part of a marketing campaign from when the College switched from a Quarter System to a Semester System.

Ranging from the traditional such as Frisbees and printed mugs to the nearly bizarre, such as a commemorative toilet seat, these materials represent the colorful past of the College.

Changes in Perspective...

Along with changes in locations, buildings, and Presidents, the College has also changed its appearance over the years through the use of different logos and branding.

Additionally, the College Student Newspapers and Administrative Newsletters have undergone changes which reflect the evolution of the College over time.

The images to the left represent a sampling of the different logos, images, and other branding associated with the College through the ages.

College Presidents

Since its inception as Salt Lake Area Vocational School in 1948, the College has had seven presidents, four different names, and through all these changes the College has continued to provide excellent academic support.

In the physical exhibit, we displayed Presidential realia such as President Carnahan’s commemorative mug, President Nelson's Gavel, and President Budd’s Medal juxtaposed with a large UTT Logo Plaque and the brightly colored SLTT logo featuring the main vocational skills taught at the College when it was known as Salt Lake Trade Technical Institute.

The photos on the left provide a trip down memory lane beginning with the College's Founding President, Howard Gunderson, and continuing through the ages to our current President, Cynthia A. Bioteau.

Salt Lake Community College’s Archives houses many physical collections ranging from Administrative Records, Photographs of Student Life, to SLCC Publications such as the Globe. Amongst these collections we have interesting materials that document the History of the College as well as special Events.
